Lately I´ve been trying to shift the way I start my days. Routine can be a dread or a blessing, the choice is yours. I went for option 2 and I must say the results are pretty amazing in such a short period of time.
Starting the day with happiness and smiling has nothing cheesy about it. It´s all about rewiring yourself into the right state of mind to embrace the day with a body and mind full of energy and determination.
There´s no rocket science involved here, my aim is to share simple tools that will allow you to shift your mindset, so you can focus on what matters and start your days being positive and with a smile 🙂
We all know that the brain highly responds to stimulation and easily activates the synapses accordingly. With some basic day-to-day practice, our thoughts will be the best boosters we can wish for. You can make your brain 100% crap-proof!
So let´s dive into some simple and easy-to-follow techniques, with only 10m to 15m of your daily time needed (and be honest, if you can be scrolling down Instagram on your phone while having breakfast, you should have 10m to take care of your wellbeing too):
Step 0 (skip it if you don´t have kids)
– Prepare their breakfast with love, give them something to be entertained with and voila, you´ll have 10m to yourself!
Step 1
– Chose a comfy place where you can have a moment or are able to listen to any music that inspires you.
Step 2
– Sit with you back straight, close your eyes and focus on the way you breath for a few seconds (use your nose only).
– Inhale using the lower, then medium and finally the upper part of your lungs. To exhale, do the inverse. Repeat for 2 or 3m.
– Feel that your mind quiets and your body follows. This way you wire your brain to create a mental white space that is so important to sketch your intentions.
Step 3
– Practice gratitude. Be grateful for what you have in your life, your loved ones, family, friends, your home, work and everything that makes your life good.
– Visualize people´s faces, objects, colors, whatever makes your mental imagery more creative and clear for your purpose.
– Transmit good vibes and positive energy to those who are part of your gratitude exercise: love and care to your loved ones, friendship and loyalty to your friends, etc.
Step 4
– Stand up and move your body. Ideally, you should move your spine in every direction (front, backwards, sides, twist and balance). You can check some of my tips here. But basically, make your body move so your circulation gets a better flow, taking more oxygen to your inner organs and cells. You´ll feel your biological structure thanking you later.
Step 5
– Sit down like in the beginning, close your eyes and practice your focus.
– Concentrate in one single thing, one image or sound. Check how.
– Do it for 2m, 3m or 5m (it can even be 1m, for those days you think you don´t have the time to do it, but still, do it!)
Step 6
– Open your eyes, smile. You´re done.
Easy peasy, right? Technically speaking, yes it is.
But I must say, the biggest struggle you´ll feel aren´t the techniques, because they´re easy to perform. The challenge you´re about to face is: consistency and discipline, to keep doing it every single day.
So what´s the trick to achieve it? Your WILL! You´ll do this because you want to, because you feel it´s the right thing to take care of yourself and those around you. It can be any other formula, you can even switch some of the steps, but whatever you do, chose to start your day with a mood-booster that makes your mind and body absolutely prepared for the day ahead with more energy, vitality, determination and light hearted.
If you have kids and/or a partner, now´s the time you join them to break your fast and share a kiss 😉
Enjoy your day!
